My roots are in Budapest, but in reality I have lived most of my life in Calgary. I have always felt the passion to create through multiple mediums. Until recently, life has not allowed me to seriously pursue my creative passion. But now the time is right for it to be unleashed. So, look out ‘cause here it comes!
My daughter, Jacky Dormaar, & I travel & shoot together, as J&j imagery. I want my images to catch your attention, make you stop & see something that you may not have noticed before.
Joe Desjardins
I’ve been a wildlife and nature photographer for almost 3 decades. I started my career working for a portrait studio in Northern Ontario, Canada. Growing up in Sault Sainte Marie afforded me the opportunity to explore nature.
Today, I’m working as a photographer out of the Calgary, AB region. Environmental portraits, equine, wildlife and nature are my main focus.
Teaching has become a large part of my life. I love the enthusiasm that the students bring to the classroom, indoors and out!
Byron Robb
I have loved photographs for as long as I can remember, & was a bad photographer for almost as long.
In Puerto Vallarta, one year I decided I needed something to do instead of drinking beer all day. So, I bought my first DSLR and vowed to take at least one photograph a day. I soon discovered that practice makes perfect doesn't apply if you practice the same mistakes over and over. There is no endpoint in this learning process. As such I dedicate myself to no particular genre of photography.
John Yates
A local Calgary area photographer who specializes in wildlife, nature and landscapes. "Photography has given me the opportunity to see places and live experiences that would normally be unavailable to the average individual had it not been for this hobby", says John. I enjoy the opportunity to photograph animals in their environment rather than an environment created by man.
Some of John's work has been displayed at the Calgary Stampede and on Fine Art America's website.
Ross Galway
I inherited the love of photography when the pocket sized digital cameras came out, but it took off during a trip to Europe in 2011. I had purchased an entry level DSLR and took thousands of photos in the Auto (point and shoot) mode. Then when I got home I signed up for the Continuing Ed Photography Course at Mt Royal to learn the camera functions and compositional elements. Since then, the Foothills Camera Club has provided lots of camaraderie, education and inspiration.
James Tworow
I first picked up a camera in 1999, at a classic car show in Calgary. And I've never stopped since.
These days I spend many weekends downtown doing urban and street photography. I'm also known to wander back roads of the prairies. And I still hang out at car shows as well, always on the look out for a street photography moment and the "tension between man and nature".

I have always felt inspired and exhilarated by outdoor experiences from hiking to fishing to intrepid travelling—here in Canada and abroad. Taking along a digital camera on these adventures gives me the chance to capture and share some of these experiences that I cherish. I enjoy meeting fellow photographers who have a like-minded curiosity about the world and are as happy as I am to head out to unexpected and remote places. I am excited by the freedom photography gives me to explore.
Teresa Janzen
My love for photography began in high school, creating black and white images in the darkroom. I have taken workshops and courses and studied at the Western Academy of Photography in Victoria.
My favourite subjects to photograph are flowers, abandoned buildings and children.
Last year, I went to the National Art Gallery in Ottawa and decided to go in a different direction with my photos. This style is more abstract-contemporary.
This group of images are a glimpse into my spiritual journey.
William Ramage
My first camera was a Kodak Baby Brownie - a Christmas gift. With that little camera, I became an avid photographer of my friends and our activities. It sparked an interest in photography that has lasted to this day.
Today, I enjoy bird & wildlife photography, landscapes, street photography, old buildings and vehicles, patterns, colors and virtually anything I see that captures my interest. I feel fortunate to live in an area with so many fantastic photographic opportunities on our doorstep.
Jacky Dormaar
Photography really started for me at 7 with my first SLR, an Olympus, just like my mom's. My parents always used to say that "the cheapest part of your vacation is film". Well, maybe it wasn't always the cheapest... My mom and I still travel together often as part of J&j imagery. We have recently been to Europe for the Christmas Art Markets and Churchill, Manitoba for polar bears.
Photography allows me to see the world in a completely different way which I love sharing through my work.
Peter Coombes
Peter has spent countless hours over the last four decades behind the lens of a camera, creating and developing pictures that inspire him. He captures an assortment of subject matter although wildlife, landscapes, and sports events are his passion.
Photography is both an outlet and a passion that allows him to capture and share unique and cherished images. Namely, it is these simple characteristics that motivate and energize Peter.
Bill Cubitt
Bill was raised in Toronto and moved to Calgary in 1981. With a love for photography for the past 40 years, Bill has traveled with camera in hand to capture his view of the world.
Mostly concentrating on wildlife and portraits, Bill enjoys getting in the truck and driving the back roads. The search for something interesting to photograph will never end.

Since my first flight as a child the “View from Above” has mesmerized me. My first aerial photo flight in 1999 started my transition from 25 years in the engineering business to one of the few full time professional aerial photographers in Canada. Although based in Calgary, my “office” is any small plane or helicopter across the country.
The aerial perspective transforms mundane to awesome. A whirlwind of shapes, patterns, textures & subjects screams by at 100 mph.
Scott Dimond
I’m a photographer and photographic lecturer/teacher. I’m admittedly obsessive at times (my wife would tell you it’s all the time). I have been known to go to extreme lengths to create an image that I have stuck in my mind. Sometimes that means a lot of research & planning, or driving for 7 hours back to a location just to take one photo etc.
My current portfolio is focused in two areas, environmental fine art and creative portraiture. My fine art direction has been urban & rural abandonment.
Nicki Chang-Powless
I have been a traveller and photographer for over 30 years. My very patient husband (aka Sherpa) has accompanied me to 4 continents and more are planned. 2015 is a turning point when I decided to begin sharing my images with others instead of keeping them on the hard drive of my computer!
I see photography as a beautiful form of art and I continually try new techniques to grow as an artist. Each piece tells a story that is meant to be shared.
Chuck Fowler
My roots are deep in Southern Alberta, as a third generation descendant of homesteaders. I was fortunate to have a Grandfather who was an avid naturalist and photographer who planted the “bug” in me. Now retired from a business career, it is time for me to capture our beautiful sites with a camera and share with you.
Craig Taylor
Craig Taylor uses creative approaches to photographing everyday subjects: "I try to look for how something could be shot, not how it should be shot." In looking for an opportunity to experiment with lighting and portrait photography, Craig recently challenged himself to shoot a self-portrait a week over the course of a year. While the results could sometimes be described as “strange” or “crazy,” he has applied these lessons when taking pictures of others. Craig's journey with photography allows
Jim Sawers
My interest in photography was re-awakened in '06 by the advent of digital cameras and the capabilities of Photoshop. Seeking a means of improving my skills, I joined the FCC in 2008.
I enjoy the creative & technical aspects - from image capture to the digital darkroom and printing.
My main areas of interest are scenic, travel and sports. With travel images I try to find something different from postcard image - a unique detail, an unusual event. With sports, its the decisive moment.
Bonnie Cullen
I’ve lived in 4 countries, including just recently moving from Ireland to Canada. I’ve always been artistic in some way, dabbling with crafts, painting, design and photography. In 2007 I got my first DSLR and joined the Dublin Camera Club and from that point I was addicted.
I work in Digital Marketing. Photography has been another skill I can offer to my employers & clients. Travel has been a great way for me to capture some of the beautiful places that I’ve been fortunate enough to visit.
Alexandra Galbraith
I have always had an interest in photography and love to shoot a variety of subjects. When I moved to Calgary five years ago, I had the pleasure of joining the Foothills Camera Club and have had a chance to refine my skills and meet many incredibly talented photographers and friends.
I hope that my images will give you a sense of a few of the hidden gems in our beautiful province.
Abraham Ybanez
I have always enjoyed photography, first being interested in my dad's old Pentax film camera, followed by class in high school and experimenting in the dark room. Having owned a multitude of small point & shoot digital cameras, it was time to upgrade to a DSLR & learn more about this hobby.
I have no favorite style of photography, I simply enjoy finding real moments to shoot, catching an honest emotion, a candid moment. I shoot for pleasure, hoping to learn & better myself as a photographer.
Palle Kjar
Palle has loved the outdoors since he was a child. He spent much of his time with his brothers exploring & appreciating the natural beauty of Alberta. As an exploration supervisor, Palle has visited many countries around the world, taking every opportunity possible to take images of people and places wholly foreign to where he grew up. But hopping in his truck & driving in southern Alberta with no other intention than to capture beautiful images will always be Palle's favorite.
Elizabeth Hak
For years, Elizabeth chased the sunrise in search of colourful landscapes - the first touch of golden light on a mountain or a field full of mist as the sun inched above the horizon. Recently, she has stayed closed to Calgary, enjoying all the photographic opportunities available in a big city. Urban architecture. Colourful municipal gardens. Wildlife in inner-city parks. And, of course, the Zoo. Her photography will continue to be inspired by the beauty & variety in & around Calgary.
Annette Wichmann
I’ve been an avid photographer since the early 90’s and moved to digital photography around 2001. Shortly thereafter, I purchased an art supply store and have been having fun ever since combining my love of painting, photography and calligraphy.
I love to photograph flowers and textures, especially Tulips. I can often be found inches away from painting peeling off a wall, or rust bubbling up surface paint & to say nothing of sidewalk cracks! I often hear people say, “What is she photographing?"
Candace Belliveau
I moved to Calgary 10 years ago after spending all of my life in the Medicine Hat area. I have had a fascination with cameras all my life and can remember taking my Dad’s camera to school in grade 3 to take photos of my friends. I converted a Nikon camera to infrared in 2009 and I now use it as much as my regular camera. I joined the Foothills Camera club soon after moving to Calgary and have learned so much from talking to the other photographers and going on field trips with them.
Angelito de Jesus
I have been involved in photography for over three decades when film was king and disco was the lay of the land. Many hours of practice, trial-and-error, traveling and photographing just about every subject and time spent in my darkroom; I further honed my skills and was able to confidently take on assignments from magazine cover photographer to weddings and special events.
We live in a dynamic, beautiful, I enjoy spending time with different subjects and explore places to photograph.
